We are a traditional, small, independent publishing company based in Chesterfield, Derbyshire, England. We are a division of PeakEasy Design, a long established British web development, Internet services and I.T. training company. This means that, as well as publishing your book, we can offer you your own bespoke Author's Website (for an example, see DickGentry.com), individually designed to your own specifications, with your Twitter account embedded on the Home page (if you have a Twitter account, and if you don't, we would recommend getting a Twitter account a.s.a.p., as social networking is an extremely important way of promoting your work). We will register a domain name for you, provide reliable hosting and an advanced, high impact website for you at a fraction of the cost you will pay elsewhere. Because we are also professional eBook and paperback publishers, we will ensure that you have an integrated marketing strategy for your new book, which will be published to the highest standards. We will involve you in discussing the jacket design and keep you informed at all stages of the publishing process. We pay generous royalties. Until recently we have not charged authors anything up front to bring out your book in paperback, but the costs of printing paperbacks in small print runs has continued to rise, so at our discretion, we may ask you to pay a small initial contribution towards bringing out your book in paperback in the U.S., or the U.K., or both. If your book sells, you will quickly recoup this initial outlay in royalty payments. IMPORTANT NOTE: if your book is submitted to us according to our Submission Guidelines, the initial payment will be kept to the minimum, or if we really like your work and think it will sell, we may not charge you anything up front. If your book needs a lot of editorial work, re-formatting, multiple corrections to your spelling, punctuation and grammar, we will charge a substantial fee to get your work into a publishable state. So please DO read our Submission Guidelines. We only accept work of high quality for publication. We are NOT vanity publishers. If you want a vanity publisher, we suggest you go to one of the many rip-off companies offering publishing services at an extortionate price. (We could list them, but you will find them easily enough if you do a search on Google.) ISBN We will supply an ISBN for your book (whether in eBook format or paperback), and publish your work to a professional standard, because we are professional publishers, with over 15 years experience in the publishing business. Book pricing We will fix the retail price of your book at a competitive price point in line with the market and other works of the same type, so it will sell. (Vanity publishers such as Lulu and Books of America typically price their paperback books at $25 U.S. (£16 GBP or E18 EUR) or more, so there is little chance your book will sell, and they charge a lot more than we do up front to publish your book.) Readers - We Guarantee Quality Readers, you can be assured that if you buy a book published by us, it is of a high standard and worth reading. Our paperback books are available through Amazon.com and Barnes & Noble in the U.S. and Waterstones Bookstores in the U.K. If you do not see the book you want on the shelf, quote the ISBN number and the bookshop will order it for you. (It is possible to order any book in print provided it has an ISBN - so if a book is not in stock, the bookshop should be able to order it - B & N take note! Don't be put of by their dumb shop assistants!) eBooks-UK was started in 1998. We were pioneers in developing digital publishing and the eBook concept, and we are still here, unlike many other eBook publishers who have come and gone over the years. What is the key to our success? Quality, quality, quality - and dealing fairly with authors. In 2010 eBooks are finally taking off in a big way in the U.K., with the news that Amazon is now shipping their latest Kindle Wireless eBook Reader to the U.K., with free 3G wireless which enables eBooks to be downloaded direct onto the Kindle without needing to be connected to a PC. Over 300,000 English-language books are already available in Kindle format, including several we have published through our eBook division. Our books are now available in the open source .ePub format which can be read on the Sony eBook Reader. Both the Kindle Reader and the Sony Reader now have native support for ebooks in the ubiquitous Adobe .pdf format, the most recent incarnation of which is Adobe Digital Editions (formerly Adobe Acrobat and Adobe Reader). The basic .PDF file format remains the same, and is still the default file format for transmitting digital publications of any type across the Internet. High resolution .pdf files have also become the preferred file format for submitting text and artwork to printers. Amazon and Sony have gone head to head in what could be an all-out war to become the predominant global player in eBook digital publishing - similar to the battle between VHS and Betamax to dominate the videotape format in the 1980s. It will be interesting to see who wins - but rest assured, eBooks-UK and our U.S. division, eBooks-America will continue to publish in all major eBook formats - as well as in paperback through our new paperback division, Woodlord.net (website coming soon.) |
